Ten days ago, I wrote about how to convert DVDs to Youtube, as part to store my old DVDs more securely. I also have some VCD, which I cannot use the same process as DVD, given the VCD’s DAT format is not recognizable by the DivX software.

After searching and exploring for a while, I learned how to do so for VCD.

1. Copy the DAT file

Of course, firstly you need to have a DVD/VCD reader. When you read the VCD, the file format is as below.

You just need to copy the AVSEQxx.DAT file onto your local drive. Given I store my VCD in a single play item, hence there’s only 1 file. If you store it into different chapters, then it will be multiple files.

2. Use VLC software

The software that I can use to convert is VLC, which is freely downloaded to view movie files of various formats. It can support the DAT format of VCD. However, its conversation steps aren’t that straightforward.
