I’m sad that you have missed the point of the article. It mentioned nothing that age is a contribution of one success or failure in software development. On the contrary, it states

The playing field has been leveled between the young and experienced developers.

The key is, as long as one keeps learning and adapt, one will succeed. Your CTO is a good example. I have my utmost respect for such an individual.

At the same time, there are also many young bright developers in the field that have contributed much to software development.

Your blanket statement on young one will repeat common mistakes, underestimate scope, etc, is not always true. I will not attribute those to age.

Either being young or old, we have much to learn in this field. Learning is the key. Not age.
